It’s Halloween-time and modern-day horror ensnares Wynter who finally convinces Karen to watch Midsommar and Hereditary. Which movie could she not make it through?!? The two get into horror/suspense auteur Ari Aster’s impressive body of work exploring intergenerational trauma, and what they call “intimate horror” within families and between lovers. Wynter goes to the theater to see Famous, a play set in 1994, based on the Two Corey's trauma they experienced as young heartthrobs and child actors from the GenX era. Karen finds refuge in the Asian and gaysian plentitude on primetime sitcoms, including Joel Kim Booster on Sunnyside and Nico Santos’ continuing undocumented arc on Superstore, plus Bowen Yang killing it every which way on SNL. NUO-LINGO drops some onomatopoeia, and the SOTW is deeply beloved by both hosts.
