Wynter & Karen welcome Madin Lopez, a stylist and the founder of ProjectQ: a non-profit organization benefiting LGBTQ+ homeless youth by providing free gender-affirming haircuts, and safe-spaces, as well as life-skills workshops. On this National Coming Out Day, the three evaluate Queen Latifah’s career and how her iconic characters, Cleo from Set it Off, and Khadijah from Living Single have influenced queer people of color over the last 25 years. Wynter swims with the gators of the horror-suspense flick, Crawl, while Karen revels in a stunning new oral history of the Lilith Fair in Vanity Fair. Meanwhile, Madin tells us a little about the Octavia Butler books they’re reading to help them unwind, while interjecting a much needed millennial perspective into this week’s NUO-LINGO. Plus, Madin’s SOTW sends us into the weekend feeling empowered.
